“I will change my method of teaching.” Photo journal from entrepreneurship training

As part of the Kilimanjaro VET project activities, a train the trainers course was conducted in Mawella VTC. Teachers from 6 Tanzanian VET centres experienced entrepreneurship studies methods they promise to add into their teacher’s toolboxes.

Here’s the photo overview of training conducted by the team of facilitators from Kuressaare Ametikool, Estonia in February 2025:

Each training day started with various icebreaking and evocation activities. Human scatterplot (pictured) was one of them. In their feedback, the Tanzanian participants valued these activities highly.

First introductory day started with presentations on Estonia and its VET system. Bret Paas gave overview of the entrepreneurship training in Kuressaare Ametikool, student company method and Junior Achievement that has branch also in Africa.

Starting from the day one, most of the work was done in groups. The tables in the class were placed so that groups had their own working area throughout the training days.

During the 5-day design sprint training participants went through a profound business idea development process and experienced many methods that they can use in their classes. Groupwork started with the future thinking assignment “Tanzania 2035.”

In addition to classroom the outer area was used for learning activities. The aim for the location change show that teacher can use the space flexibly and raise participants attentiveness and make them stand in addition to sitting.

Coffee breaks and lunches offered a possibility for the teachers from different VET centers to get to know each other more and exchange ideas

With each participant a photo was made during the awarding of the certificate.All participants received also the “starter kit for design thinking” with post-it notes, markers etc.).

Festive lunch was hosted by Mr Venance Kimaka from Mawella VTC. Presented were training team and Mawella VTC’s donors from Germany.

To celebrate the event, "African cake" was eaten together with the participants and family of Mawella VTC.

Kilimanjaro VET’s work package 4 concentrates on entrepreneurship studies. After the training one extra day was devoted to working with the entrepreneurship teaching material that is developed within the project. The day was hosted by the project partner Tanzania Volunteers.
