Thanks to the Erasmus+ project, teachers in the Kilimanjaro area have received new laptops that assist them in their professional work. The 25 laptops distributed in January 2024 are significantly improving teachers’ abilities to prepare for classes, research teaching materials, and communicate with parents.
“Technology is growing rapidly worldwide, and institutions that provide technical education cannot afford to lag behind. It is for this reason that VETA (Vocational Education Training Authority) will continue to incorporate technology into its programs to produce skilled technicians who are proficient in modern technology,” said Ms. Monica Mbelle, Northern Zone Director of VETA, to the Tanzanian national newspaper, Daily News.
“I want to express my sincere thanks to the Kilimanjaro VET project for providing us with the digital tools that enhance our ability to perform our day-to-day activities in training. The laptops will help us access a wide range of educational and training resources via the internet and other sources, simplifying the preparation of teaching and training materials, such as presentations, illustrations, notes, and handouts for trainees,” said Deacon Fred B. Minja of Hai Vocational Training College.
Other teachers mentioned that they would use the laptops to:
- Access scholarly sources of information beyond textbooks.
- Create multimedia presentations.
- Manage student data.
- Share information and feedback with parents.
Teachers also use the laptops to participate in online learning webinars, which are among the activities of the Kilimanjaro VET project.
“This project will greatly benefit the community, as teachers now have equipment that will significantly contribute to the development of training sessions for the three concerned institutions,” said Dr. Venance Kimaka of the Mawella Vocational Training Centre, as reported to Daily News.
