Tanzanian teachers learned a lot from Oulu

Toripolliisi is one of Oulu’s most famous and photographed landmarks. It is located in Oulu’s market square next to the market hall. Toripolliisi statue is a tribute to the market policemen who maintained order at Oulu’s market in the past. Traditionally, a picture is taken with the Toripolliisi, as we did too.

OSAO’s buses transported visitors throughout the week. Bus driver students completed their competence demonstrations during the trips, under the supervision of a teacher and a workplace representative.

OSAO’s Managing Director-Principal Jarmo Paloniemi, along with other OSAO staff and the Cruzr robot, welcomed the guests on the first morning. Cruzr performed a little dance to entertain the visitors.

Various learning environments were introduced during the week. In the logistics field, different simulators were explored.

OSAO’s teaching barn and fields are located in Matokorpi, Muhos.

Oulu University of Applied Sciences’ teacher education is located in the Linnanmaa campus area, which also houses the University of Oulu. On the day of the visit, an event area was being set up outside for the opening ceremony.

Iiris Happo and Kimmo Kuortti brought laughter to the guests right in the lobby of Oulu University of Applied Sciences (Oamk).

Iiris gave a presentation on the teaching and work facilities of Oulu University of Applied Sciences’ teacher education.

In the library, there was a moment to relax and explore the extensive selection of books.

At the university, doctoral dissertations are publicly displayed for at least 7 days before the thesis defense, on the “Tree of Science” in the respective doctoral program.

We visited OSAO’s student construction site in Letonranta. OSAO’s safety coordinator Jani Juustila gave a tour of the site.

Rain surprised us during the construction site visit, but it didn’t dampen our spirits.

We got a glimpse of the house under construction. Protective gear is important not only for workers but also for visitors to the construction site.

The theoretical classrooms for the student construction site are located in site containers.

Construction teacher Heikki Rämä presented the pedagogy of house construction and the digital model in use, which is widely utilized in construction education.

OSAO’s teaching restaurant Hilikku, located in downtown Oulu, hosted us for a delicious three-course dinner prepared and served by restaurant and catering students. The evening program was organized by OSAO’s Agent023 project.

The students responsible for the excellent food at Hilikku received loud applause.

At Vocational College Luovi, we visited various learning environments, such as the teaching kitchen.

Our Tanzanian guests held teaching sessions for business and tourism student groups.

At OSAO’s Kaukovainio campus, we also explored various workshops, machines, and equipment.

Each Tanzanian partner school received a new video projector, among other things.

During the week, many interesting discussions took place, we learned a lot from each other, and strengthened our cooperation. From here, we move forward on a good note!
